The Work Assistant service heavily relies on Cortana which makes it possible for users to give "natural language" commands. Examples are finding documents or sharing a document with a contact. The app also weighs in when the document was last opened which makes it possible to ask Work Assistant to open something on which an user worked "last week".
Last Friday the first rumors appeared about Microsoft internally testing Work Assistant but there wasn't much information about the features of the assistant. back then Work Assistant appears to be targeted at mobile Windows 10 users however the service will possibly also come to Windows Phone 8.1.
