D4rk0n3 used our news submit to tell us about a story posted over at Akihabara News,
telling of a more powerful red laser for burning 16x DL media. It looks as though the article is an English translation from the Sharp Japanese website. Oddly, the component is to be used in a notebook drive.
| Up until now, burners had a maximum throughput of 250mW, which allowed the burning of single layer DVDs at 16x. With this new red laser burner, Sharp reached a throughput of 350mW, which is required to burn double layer DVDs. It's interesting to note that this is a compact burner for laptop size computers |
