Sixty Arrested As FBI Swoops on US Internet Scams

Dont do the crime,if you cant do the time.

More than 60 people were arrested in America last week in a series of swoops by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on internet scams.

The law enforcement agency estimated that 56,000 people have been deceived into handing over more than $117m ( pounds 80m), including fraudulent investment offers, non-existent internet services and credit card theft.

The UK has seen only a handful of internet fraud cases. A spokesman for the Serious Fraud Office said that there were no internet-related cases currently under investigation, though it does not employ someone to be specifically responsible for internet- related crime, even though the problem is worsening in the US.

Larry Thompson, deputy attorney general at the Department of Justice, said last week: "Internet fraud, whether it is in the form of securities and investment schemes, online auction and merchandising schemes, credit card fraud or identity theft, has been one of the fastest growing and pervasive forms of white-collar crime."
