With the CRX210A1, Sony has retained the consumer friendliness that they are known for, while delivering one of the most well rounded and versatile 48/12/48 CD-RW drives we've tested. When it comes to performance, the CRX210A1 did very well in our CD read tests. When reading pressed and CD-R media the drive consistently exceeded 48x with the Turbo Boost enabled, and read CD-RW discs at a respectable 40x. The CRX210A1's DAE performance was also very good. In our tests the drive had no problems ripping audio CD's at 48x but ran into some problems when reading scratched and dirty audio CD's.
The CRX210A1 also did surprisingly well in our writing tests. While the drive's average writing speed is a little slower than other 48x writers we've looked at, it flew through our writing tests with some of the fastest writing times we've seen. The CRX210A1's media compatibility is also very good. In our writing tests I found that it was able to write at 48x to a variety of media while keeping the writing errors to a minimum.
