Ian from CDRLabs.com has reviewed Sony's DRU110A, first generation, DVD+RW drive. Although the drive does and will not support the DVD+R format it still gets a good score:

I will say that Sony's DRU110A is a pretty nice DVD+RW drive. Since it shares the same Ricoh drive design as the DVD+RW drives from HP and Philips, its performance is very similar. In our tests, the drive had no problem reaching 32x for all types of CD's but ran into some problems when doing DAE. Like the other DVD+RW drives we've tested, the DRU110A insisted on slowing down when reading pressed audio CD's.
Like the other DVD+RW drives we've tested, the Sony DRU110A had no problems in our DVD writing tests. The DRU110A's 2.4x writing speeds allowed me to write about 4GB of data in a little over 20 minutes. When reading DVD+RW, DVD-ROM and DVD Video discs, the DRU110A had no problems reaching speeds of 8x. Those of you thinking that DVD+RW drives cannot read DVD-R/RW discs might be a little surprised because the DRU110A had no problems reading them.
The Sony DRU110A/C1 DVD+RW gets an overall score of 9. Interested in reading the complete review of this drive? Check it out on CDRLabs.com.
