Sony including PSP Movies on Blu-ray

Even though owners are unable to watch Blu-ray movies natively on the Sony PlayStation Portable handheld gaming console, it's possible to pull movies directly off Blu-ray movies released by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

Specifically, this supposed "new technology" will let PSP owners who also have a PlayStation 3 to transfer movies using the "Digital Copy" feature.  Not surprisingly, the transferred files will work only on the PSP, and cannot be used on other devices.

Despite having a large game catalog, the PSP has had trouble competing with the Nintendo DS handheld gaming unit.  This Sony-centric feature is designed to create renewed interest – especially among PS3 owners – to purchase and use a PSP to watch movies while on the go.
psp.go-dzilla.092909-580pxThe first two movies available with the capability, according to Sony, are Godzilla and The Ugly Truth -- expect only Sony to make PSP formatted movies available on Blu-ray, as it wouldn't make logistical sense for other movie studios to worry about contributing to such a small market.  Both Godzilla and The Ugly Truth will be released on Nov. 10, Sony Pictures indicates.

"This latest enhancement to Blu-ray and Digital Copy demonstrates the versatility of the format and its ability to deliver a multi-platform video experience," Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's Rich Marty said to Home Media Magazine.  "It also showcases the unique advantage that the PlayStation 3 brings to the Blu-ray consumer."

If you're a PSP and PS3 owner, is this something you're interested in using?  Why or why not?
