Stay away from File Freedom Sidekick

eljay used our newssubmit to tell us about FileFreedom Sidekick.

This is how FileFreedom Sidekick works:

SideKick works alongside your favorite file sharing program. When you begin a download, SideKick will automatically look up information on the file from the File Catalog. SideKick will also add information from your transaction to the File Catalog so others can benefit from it. When the download completes, you are given the option of rating and/or commenting on the file in order to solicit information from others, or to inform the community

Example here. Well this all looks good, but Geeknews.net reports this about the software:

A new p2p review piggyback system called FileFreedom Sidekick allows users to review and rate files on Napster, Bearshare, Audiogalaxy and other P2P networks. The kicker is the software uses a digital fingerprinting technology to identify the songs, which could be used to determine who is downloading what, not to mention the fact the software tracks your usage and 'suggests' which CDs you should buy at Amazon and other etailers. We are seeing more of this tracking by software companies I advise all users to be very careful when downloading the latest P2P software such as Bearshare(which has spyware in it), MusicCity Morpheus(which also has ad spyware in it) and now this program. Such a shame - first we get rid of the Pay2Surf scammers and boom we have these P2P scammers.
