Study: Blue laser format war will not impede market

Can you
take another study? Here's one from the Santa Clara Consulting group (SCCG) that
states the current battle between Blu-ray and HD-DVD is not going to be too
negative an influence on the market for these high definition optical formats.
In fact, they predict sales of 2 billion dollars for the new
generation discs and devices in 2006! They point to the PlayStation 3
as one of the primary reasons for attaining such an impressive figure, making up
a full 50 percent of the projection.

"Currently the market seems to be preoccupied with the format
battle between Blu-ray and HD DVD technologies; what is overlooked is the
fact that a market is developing and the opportunity is huge," observes
David Bunzel, Managing Director of SCCG.

Other important markets expected to offer
significant growth potential are blue laser technology players, with
nearly $4 billion of sales in 2010; blue laser technology movies, with $3
billion of sales; blue laser technology game consoles, with $6 billion of
sales; blue laser technology games, with $10 billion of sales; blue laser
technology PC drives, with $4 billion; and blue laser technology blank
media with $400 million of sales.
