While reading a story over at E-commerce news, I was made aware of a new (to me) file-sharing program. It comes from a site named of all things, Warez.com, who's motto is 'Redefining Warez'. Huh? Of course, I visited the site for 'investigative purposes' and it appears to offer a spyware free P2P client and lists some questionable material. Yet, on the main page they are pushing for folks to join BMG record club.
The article on E-commerce detailed a survey conducted on the Warez.com site that purportedly queried 150,000 participants. The data they collected indicates that P2P is nothing more than a catalyst for music sales. Credible? Who knows. Interesting? You bet.

Moderate music listeners showed a negligible uptick when comparing their pre- and post-P2P behavior, and heavy musicos showed a decline. The survey showed 26.01 percent of its respondents bought 10 to 20 CDs annually before P2P exposure and 26.61 percent afterwards. But the numbers for those surveyed who buy more than 20 CDs a year dropped from 16.21 percent to 15.27 percent after P2P contact. |
Take a visit to both sites, E-commerce to read a little more about the study. Then take a gander at the Warez.com site and report back what you think of this outfit. They are posting over a half million users are online with their product right now. It would be interesting to see what is going on over there. I suppose that anyone can refer another to a legitimate site to join a record club. They are also advertising many other applications there. The P2P application is listed on C|Net's Download.com with over one and a half million downloads. Make sure to read the users opinions on the C|Net page, it looks like if you aren't careful you will be loading up on some tasty spyware, however, it appears it is optional if you can believe the reviewers. This is just a little bit off the wall it seems, but who knows? Tell us what you think of this Warez.com site.
