Support for ATA 100 (Mode 5 ) in Win2K...

FutureProof, our CD Freaks Forum Moderator, used our newssubmit to tell us some more information on the Win2k and ATA66/100 issue which we reported about a few days ago:

"Windows 2000 does not support ATA 100 (Mode 5) for IDE hard disks. All ATA 100 IDE hard disks that are used with Windows 2000 default to ATA 66 (Mode 4)."

Hardware technology has grown a lot since Win2K was first released. While this problem has been evident since early 2000, it is only in the last six months or so that UDMA issues have begun to cause some problems - particularly with the burning fraternity. This Microsoft Knowledge Base Article may cure your ills if you have not installed any Service Packs - in fact I'm not really sure that it has been included in any of the Service Packs to date.

Please note that we know this isn't 'real' news but nonetheless it can be very handy information for our visitors. Leave your complaints at the door please
