The Swedish website 'Ny Teknik" ('New Technology")
reports that several record companies are unhappy with how the CD copy
protections work today. The Swedish record company Bonnier Music will even stop
using copy protections as there are complaints from customers that are unable to
play their music in for example MP3 players and some car stereos. The CEO of
Bonnier Music, Ludwig Werner, thinks that this is a total failure and that
today's copy protections are simply not good enough to be used.
Carl Ekdahl at BMG Sweden agrees and says they're not
using copy protections for Swedish releases but for worldwide releases BMG
International requests that copy protections are used. Also Mattias Wachtmeister
at Warner Music Sweden agrees that the copy
protections are not very good but they receive rather few complaints and he
thinks the protections reduce the illegal copying.
Birgitta Bokstré¶m at Sony Music Sweden
claims however that the protection they're using now is much better than the
ones they used previously and they will continue releasing copy protected
CDs too.
