As the United States has the most popular entertaiment industry the country is also the one that has to make the most efforts in order to protect the intellectual property of the companies. The entertaiment industry of the United States has urged the president to make efforts in putting pressure on countries that are known to be the home for many pirates.
Taiwan is one of the countries that is on this priority watch list and the country has now made efforts to stop piracy in the country.
Premier Yu Shyi-kun issued the order after talks on intellectual property rights with Washington, which has Taiwan on a "priority watch list" for copyright piracy and has threatened to revoke trade benefits. "The illegal commercial acts of CD pirates have become an obstacle to Taiwan's foreign relations," Premier Yu said. |
US movie, software and music companies urged the Bush administration on Friday to crack down on foreign CD piracy, which they said cost the US economy an estimated $US20 to $US22 billion in 2002. The United States is Taiwan's second-largest export market, taking 21 per cent of its $US131 billion in exports last year.
