CDRLabs.com has just
posted their latest review of the TDK Indi DVD 440N DVD-recorder. The
Indi DVD 440N is TDK's first dual-format recorder and supports 4x recording to
both DVD-R and DVD+R media. Besides that the drive supports 2.4x DVD+RW, 2x
DVD-RW, 16x CD-R and 10x CD-RW recording speeds:
 TDK's new Indi DVD 440N is a great choice for anyone looking to
buy a dual format DVD writer. Based on the ND-1300A from NEC, the 440N
offers many of the things we've come to expect from TDK including good
looks, lots of features and impressive performance.
While drives with 8x DVD writing speeds are on their
way, the 440N's 4x DVD+R and DVD-R writing speeds should satisfy the needs
of most people. As it was, TDK's new drive did very well in our DVD
writing tests, burning 4GB of data in as little as 13 minutes.
Unfortunately, when it came to rewriting, the 440N was no match for the
Sony DRU-510A and its 4x DVD+RW writing speeds.
TDK's new DVD writer also did pretty well in our CD reading and writing
tests. The 440N was able to read pressed and CD-R discs at 40x and CD-RW
media at a respectable 32x. The drive also had some pretty good seek
times, no matter what type of media we were using. For a DVD writer, the
440N also did very well in our DAE tests, reaching speeds as high as 33x.
As a writer, the 440N wasn't nearly as fast as we would have liked. While
the drive's 16x writing and 10x rewriting speeds are alright if you need
to write an occasional CD or two, it definitely won't be replacing your
CD-RW any time soon. |
The TDK Indi DVD 440N drive has a black front bezel and glossy
finish which makes it stand out when compared to other drives. Since the
TDK drive performed very well and had good features it gets CDRLabs' Editors
Choice Award and an overall high score of 9/10. If this has made you
