TDK veloCD 24/10/40 review at CDRlabs

HotSummr used our newssubmit to tell us that CDRLabs has a review on the TDK veloCD 24/10/40. This new fast drive of TDK does it's job very good, but there were also some critical notes:

Part of conclusion:

Not everything was perfect. While the drive was able to read pressed and CD-R media at up to 40x, it could only read CD-RW media at 32x. With most new drives having the ability to read CD-RW media at full speed, this put the veloCD at a definite disadvantage. I also think the two Optimum Write Speed Technologies from Ricoh and Yamaha were better. In my tests, Sanyo's FlexSS-BP didn't work all the time. Most of the media I used in the tests was able to be written to at 24x or lower speeds. The veloCD drive created quite a few coasters when using the Taiyo Yuden 20x media. FlexSS-BP failed to do its job by lowering the writing speed to one this media could handle. In another case the Fuji media (also Taiyo Yuden based) refused to work at all, creating a nice stack of coasters at 24x and 16x.
