On CDRLabs.com we can find a new review of the TDK veloCD 48/24/48 writer. The TDK veloCD is one of the first drives supporting ultra-speed CD-ReWriting (24X) and besides that the drive offers 48X recording and reading speeds:
Along with some of the fastest reading and writing speeds currently available, the veloCD 48/24/48 is one of the first 48x writers to feature 16x and 24x rewriting speeds. As has always been the case with TDK, this new drive isn't just about speed. The new veloCD offers a long list of features including SMART-Burn buffer underrun protection and SMART-X extraction monitoring technology. |
Part of the Conclusion:
With some of the fastest writing and rewriting speeds currently available, TDK's new veloCD 48/24/48 is one of the best writers they've produced so far. While the veloCD's average writing speed is a little slower than other 48x writers we've looked at, it flew through our writing tests with some of the fastest writing times we've seen. The veloCD's media compatibility is also very good. In our writing tests I found that TDK's new drive was able to write at 48x to a variety of media while keeping the writing errors to a minimum.
So are the veloCD's 24x rewriting speeds all they are cracked up to be? I really wanted to compare the drive to the Yamaha CRW-F1, but I could not get it to rewrite at 24x. According to TDK, the drive requires a firmware upgrade before it will recognize 24x CD-RW media correctly. The good thing is that the veloCD had no problems recognizing 16x CD-RW media. The drive performed pretty well in our standard rewriting tests but was not as fast as a few of the others in our Mt. Rainier tests.
Ian, the author of the review, gives the TDK veloCD 48/24/48 drive an average score of 9 and is pretty happy with the drive. If you want to check out the complete review please check here.
