TEAC Japan announces 8x DVD±R DL Super Multi burner

TEAC Japan has officially announced the first DVD writer with support for writing both DVD+R DL and DVD-R DL at 8x speed. The drive has the model name DV-W516E and is also a "Super Multi" burner, meaning it supports writing and reading of all current DVD formats including DVD-RAM:

TEAC DV-W516E specifications

According to TEAC's website the DV-W516E supports 8x DVD±R DL speed "when using an 8x speed disc" so if that means no support for overspeeding DL discs to 8x speed it might take a while before you will be able use it at this speed. At least for the DVD-R DL format because the 8x DVD-R DL specs are not approved by DVD forum yet and 4x DVD-R DL media just recently hit the shelves. 8x DVD+R DL media from Mitsubishi should however be shipping in Q3 this year.

The DV-W516E is expected to be available in the beginning of July according to watch.impress.co.jp.
