TEAC's Portable 8/8/24 CD-RW review @ CDRWcentral

CDRWcentral has put a review of Teac's portable 8/8/24 CD-RW drive. This slim CD-RW drive connects to your computer using the USB2.0 interface and is of course compatible with older USB versions.

The drive has a 2MB buffer and uses WriteProof as a buffer underrun technology. According to CDRWcentrals tes,t the drive with can not write in RAW mode and cannot overburn either.

Conclusion:For a portable CD-RW Recorder, the Teac CD-W28PUK is ideal, its small and compact, and can be used on any PC that has USB ports, but to gain the most from this drive USB 2.0 ports will be required. Nero 5.5 works well with the drive as well.

The lack of RAW writing and Overburning pulls the drive down in terms of features, but as a backup device for files from a PC's hard drive, it's ideal in the office if you want to save all your documents or photo's etc.

The drive performed well under tests, we could not really find any major faults with the drive. The only thing that did get our attention is the noise that the drive makes when it seeks. Tests with CD-Speed showed this.

The play back of audio files with the headphones plugged in was satisfactory -- headphones are not supplied.
