Throw away your cables - wireless HDMI is here!

Over on bitech.net, a report from CES highlights a quiet but significant pre-production technological release by Philips - a wireless HDMI transmission system.

The setup is apparently radio-based on the 3.0 - 4.4GHz range, and therefore does not interfere with standard computer/broadband WiFi routers; nor does it affect cordless telephones. Since it's radio, even walls don't get in the way and the transmitter can throw a signal to a projector next door up to 25 ft away.
The article describes a few glitches that will need to be ironed out, but hopefully Philips can get this sorted relatively quickly. There are no mentions of DRM or protections of any sort, but I guess we will have to wait and see what occurs via this very interesting area of HD wireless development.
