Till now there have been no reports of people that got hurt due to the batteries. The affected batteries were shipped with Toshiba Portege, Satellite and Tecra laptops between 2011 and 2016. The actual manufacturer of the lithium-ion battery packs is Panasonic and customers can see if they are affected by checking the serial number. In case of a defective battery the serial number starts with G71C.

About 91,000 of the affected Toshiba laptops were sold in the United States, another 10,000 were sold in Canada. It's unclear whether Toshiba will also recall the batteries in Europe and other regions.
