Toshiba's Mark Knox says HD-DVD delay 'greatly' exaggerated

We all read a couple weeks ago the bombshell that HD-DVD was to be delayed for a public release. The information we had read stated that it may be as late as next year. Now however, at least Toshiba's "go-to guy" Mark Knox, has told Ultimate AV at the CEDIA Expo that these reports are not at all accurate and we could well see some HD-DVD goodness yet this year!

When I ran into Mark Knox, Toshiba's go-to person for up-to-date information on the HD-DVD format, he told me that the reports of the format's delay are greatly exaggerated. While he offered no dates, he did suggest that a 2005 launch is still very much a possibility. So don't put that checkbook away just yet.
Toshiba did have a very low-key demo of their prototype HD XA1 HD-DVD player in a corner of their booth. Mixed in among the demo material was an extended trailer for the upcoming King Kong remake. Awesome.

In a little more than a few months, CDFreaks will send a contingency to Las Vegas for a visit to the annual COnsumer Electronics Show. Surely by then, we will know the answers. At any rate, we inch closer day by day to seeing some next generation high definintion content.
