UK DVD market still surging ahead, 80 percent volume increase

According to an article over at Home Cinema Choice the UK DVD market is still surging as sales of standalone DVD players increased by no less than 80 percent (in terms of volume) from May 2002 to May 2003. Our thanks once again goes to GristyMcFisty for his  submission :

New figures just released by statistical research outfit GfK Marketing Services reveal that the DVD market is showing no sign of slowing down. According to their findings, sales of DVD players increased by 80 per cent in volume terms from May 2002 to May 2003 - a remarkable performance that suggest that 2003 DVD sales could hit 4.7 million units. What's more, the results suggest that a DVD deck can now be found in around 30 per cent of UK households - more proportionally than anywhere else in Europe.

The surge in sales isn't restricted to standalone DVD players either; GfK also found that sales of full all-in-one home cinema systems had gone up by 36 per cent from May last year - a leap that could see almost 700,000 such systems shifting over the full 2003 period.
