Users of the remote desktop software TeamViewer complain on Twitter and Reddit that their computers are hacked through the software. The hacked computers were used to make fraudulent purchases, users complain. Earlier this week, the TeamViewer network also went offline for a couple of hours.

Despite all the uproar, TeamViewer denies there is anything wrong with its software and hasn't found any security breach. According to the company the culprit is 'careless' use of the software, especially because users use the same password on multiple services. When any of these are hacked and the passwords are obtained, hackers gain access to all services where the user uses the same password. In this case TeamViewer suspects that the hacked users used the same password for TeamViewer and a hacked service.
This wouldn't be surprising, lately there has been a lot of news that hackers sell billions of user accounts from e.g. LinkedIn, Mail.ru, MySpace and many other websites.
TeamViewer therefore advices users to use different passwords for different sites and software, to change them often and to not use personally identifiable data.
