CDRLabs.com has taken a
look at Verbatim's latest DVD+RW recorder, the Verbatim Producer 4,
which is based on the NEC ND-1100A DVD+RW recorder. As the
Verbatim's model number suggests, the drive supports 4x DVD+R recording
while DVD+RW discs can be recorded at 2.4x:
 If you're looking for the best bang for your buck,
Verbatim's new 4x DVD+RW just might be it. Based on the ND-1100A from NEC,
the Producer 4 offers impressive performance and a long list of features
at an affordable price.
While the Producer 4 does have a few rough spots, it performed very
well in our tests. With its 4x DVD+R writing speeds, the drive was able to
write about 4GB of data in less than 13 minutes. The Producer 4 took a
little longer to write to DVD+RW media, but even then it was faster than
most of the second generation DVD+RW drives we've tested. The Producer 4
also boasts 12x DVD read speeds, the fastest available on a DVD+RW drive.
Unfortunately, we quickly found out that this only applies to single layer
data DVD-ROM's. When reading other types of DVD's, the drive was much
slower. |
The Verbatim Producer 4 drive can be bought for an affordable price of around
$ 205 and for this reason the drive gets CDRLabs' Best Buy Award. If you're
