Verizon Wireless recently completed testing its Long Term Evolution (LTE) network in Seattle and Boston, moving one step towards 4G wireless and IP-based mobile communications.
4G technology will make it even faster for phone subscribers to access the Internet, watch and download high-quality video, and increase audio transfer speeds, supporters believe. Verizon expects to launch its 4G networks across select markets in 2010, but will likely have to wait for phone manufacturers to begin catching up on 4G technology.

Although many phone subscribers in the U.S. are just now catching up with 3G, 4G is the technology of the future, and will offer even faster speeds. Verizon Wireless and AT&T have heavily promoted 3G use for the past several years, though bandwidth restraints have been unable to keep up with demand.
To compare speeds, 3G receive data at one million bits per second, while 4G tests indicate speeds will increase several times over, making it very appealing for subscribers. Expect markets such as Boston, Seattle, San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and other major metropolitan areas to receive 4G support first.
