VisionTek Xtasy 48X review @ CDRLabs.com

CDRLabs.com has posted a new review of the VisionTek Xtasy 48X drive. We also reviewed this drive and were quite pleased with it. Ian from CDRLabs.com has the same opinion:

VisionTek made a wise choice by basing their new writer on Lite-On's LTR-48125W. The drive has some of the fastest speeds available and has features to match. In our CD read tests, VisionTek's Xtasy 48x performed very well. The drive had no problems exceeding 48x when reading pressed and CD-R media and was able to read CD-RW discs at 40x. The drive also had some pretty good seek times, but like the LTR-48125W it had some higher than normal CPU usage. With DAE speeds in excess of 48x, VisionTek's new writer is also one of the fastest drives available for ripping audio CD's.

Like the Lite-On LTR-48125W, I have a hard time not recommending this drive. If there would be any reason to think twice about getting it, it would be its price. Currently, the drive goes for about $159.99 at Best Buy. Retail versions of the Lite-On drive can easily be found for $50 less online. While $50 may seem like a lot of money to some people, having the technical support of VisionTek at your back and the ability to return the drive to a retail store might make it worth it.

The VisionTek drive gets an overall score of 8. You can check out the full review here. You can read our own review of this Lite-On based drive here.
