Warner
Home Video, which already has several HD DVD titles on the market, has just announced its
first line of Blu-ray Titles. On August 1st, they will release four
titles on Blu-ray, two of which they launched with their first HD DVD releases -
Training Day and Rumor Has It... Two of the titles will be priced at
$34.99, while the other two will be priced at $28.99. They expect to
launch further Blu-ray titles in the coming weeks.
According to the President of Warner Home Video,
they aim to provide its customers with broad choice of options when it comes to
next generation media. These discs will feature access to extra features
via a seamless menu-bar, where features and settings can be accessed with the
movie still playing in the background.
With several titles becoming available on both Blu-ray
and HD DVD shortly, this makes it easier for reviewers to start comparing the
features and capabilities of each player, such as image quality, menu features,
navigation and so on. Hopefully over time, it will start becoming clear
whether or not Blu-ray's additional capacity makes enough of a difference for
the average consumer to easily notice the difference. Unfortunately, while
Warner is planning on releasing Blu-ray titles shortly, so far not all movie
labels have plans on releasing media on both formats. For example, it is
unclear how long Sony will take to release titles on HD DVD, assuming they
decide to take on this format at some stage.
