Whatsapp has updated the Android version of its messaging service with a new setting that allow users to choose how they want to receive notifications. The new version makes it possible to decide how notifications are received for each chat.
The new setting was already available in the beta version of the Android app but has now been officially released. User can change how they are notified of new messages in each chat by setting them in the contact details of the person they chat with.
The update also adds the option to mark chats as read or unread, this is only local, when a chat is changed from read to unread, the other party doesn't see the change. Whatsapp also promises lower data usage when using their VOIP calls. The messaging app has now a setting to lower data usage in Settings > Chats and Calls.
Also new emoji have been added, users can also tap and hold on some emoji to choose a different color. The iOS version of Whatsapp received all new features in an update released earlier this month.
