Have Blu-ray Discs won the battle against HD-DVDs?
Though BD has been pushed by major companies to be the standard format for high-definition movie discs, the BD player prices are still too high to be bought at ease. Consumers really hesitate when they think about buying a new BD player at $300-plus prices, specially when $50 DVD players are still around and getting cheaper. Also, only a limited number of film titles are available in the up-growing format which discourages buyers from investing their money in a new BD player.
There are many other technologies available today for watching a movie. Satellite, cable and online video services are all competing to have their part of the cake.
To boost up Blu-ray Discs sales this summer, industry-leading manufacturers in corporation with movie studios are planning to add interesting titles and special features to BDs such as picture-in-picture. The BD movies are planned to cost $10 higher than DVD movies. BD players are also expected to have a drop-down in their prices this summer.
BD technology is expected to dominate within two years from now. As the consumer awareness increases and the prices get lower, BD will have much more chance to provide an enhanced and enjoyable experience to more consumers all over the world.
