While Napster Was Sleeping

Napster they still make it sound like its the best program to get your mp3s but it aint that anymore for some weeks now..

Napster remains the most highly trafficked file-trading website on the Internet, despite a 36 percent drop in unique visitors over the last two months, according to Neilson/NetRatings. This coincides with the file-trading service adding court-ordered filters to the Napster network that has made it nearly impossible to trade songs through its system.

The resulting drop in file-trading has sent music fans '“- particularly teenage users '“- searching for alternative file-trading services. Once those fans have found an alternative, many have decided they would rather not return to Napster when it launches a pay-service in the coming months.

Napster's chief rivals -'“ Kazaa, Bearshare, Audiogalaxy and iMesh '“- have seen significant upswings in their traffic.

Kazaa's traffic has grown 142 percent since May, followed by Bearshare's 39 percent rise, then Audiogalaxy with a 32 percent spike, and finally iMesh with a 26 percent growth spurt.

Kazaa and its file-trading cousins are just a few of the several hundred computer applications that can be downloaded onto hard drives and used to get music files for free. Once the file-trading program has been installed, users can connect to an infinite number of people on the Internet simply by launching the service.
