Who needs a Blu-ray or HD-DVD player?

Surfing the web today I found a really funny news published at Pocket-lint about a standalone DVD player, the Marantz DV7001. Thanks to upscaling technology, as stated in the title, this drive is able to deliver 1080p performance from a DVD.

Checking at Marantz website, I was able to find also detailed specifications of this drive, and you can read a very impressive list of features that make this player very appealing.

Then I returned at the Pocket-lint announce, and I noticed a "little" detail that I missed previously: this is a really "inexpensive" standalone... it costs "only" £600 (about €900 or about $1,180).

Pricegrabber shows for a Toshiba HDA1 HD-DVD Player a price range of $309.95 - $499.00 from 10 Sellers: I wonder who will buy this player when a HD-DVD player has a lower price...
