Windows 10 to run on low-end smartphones as well

Windows Phones with 512MB memory will likely be able to run Windows 10. Microsoft's ambition is to make the upcoming operating system to work with those phones. On Twitter Joe Belfiore, the corporate vice president of the operating systems group from Microsoft tweeted,  "Hey all: we ARE working on Win10 for 512MB, including 520. Our ambition is to make #Win10 available for these devices but features may vary."

With the tweet he doesn't confirm Windows 10 will be able to run on phones with 512MB memory, but that it's the ambition of Windows 10 to support them. The functionality of Windows 10 can differ per device, he warns.

Initially it was rumored Microsoft wouldn't be able to support running Windows 10 on phones with 512MB RAM, but last week a Microsoft employee already stated that the first preview version of Windows 10 would run on 512MB phones.

The first preview should be released in February, Belfiore acknowledged again. The version will be only available for several phones, according to Belfiore, some phones will get the preview version later. The version can be tested by participants of the free Windows Insider program.
