The latest Windows 10 Technical Preview shows a QR code on the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). By scanning the code users should get more information about the reason their system crashed. A Reddit user discovered the QR code in the Windows Insider version released last week.
A QR code is a two-dimensional barcode and consists of (normally) black modules (square dots) arranged in a square grid on a white background. While it was originally designed for the Japanese automotive industry it has been rapidly adopted to provide additional information on all kinds of things. The popularity is caused by the fact that most smartphones can quickly read out the code.
In the changelog of the latest Windows 10 Insider Edition the QR code wasn't mentioned and therefore it's not 100% sure why the Redmond software giant has added them to their BSODs.
However, the most likely explanation is to provide users a quick way to get information on the system's crash. An additional hint for that explanation is that the QR code points to the website www.windows.com/stopcode which contains information about resolving BSOD crashes.
