Not even cold in the store`s and already the security of the new operating system Windows XP is in discussion..
Specialy the firewall who not blocking 100% and giving the users of this new operating system a fake feeling of safety.
Windows is so big that I don't trust Microsoft to provide cutting-edge technology in each of the diverse areas it's trying to cover '” from media files to communications software '” let alone its security features. A security flaw has already appeared in Internet Explorer, which recently allowed viruses such as Nimda to take over users' PCs. |
There are several standalone security products out there that are better than any built-in OS feature found in XP, and should be used by anyone upgrading to Microsoft's newest operating system.
Microsoft touts its new Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) as a significant security feature. The promotion reads, 'Business networks have been able to protect themselves from outside attacks by using firewalls. Windows XP offers that same security to consumers with its ICF protection feature." It's the phrase 'protect themselves from outside attacks" that troubles me.
In truth, ICF stops only hostile inbound Internet traffic. The greater danger lies with outbound traffic, viruses, Trojan horses, and adware '” all of which can attempt to connect to the Internet without your permission. ICF does nothing to stop these threats.
