Some time ago we reported about the release of a new 24x Writer by Yamaha. Well, Ian of CDRlabs had the joy of reviewing this drive and submitted a part here...
We have the first review up of Yamaha's new 24/10/40 writer, the CRW3200. This is the fastest writer around and features Yamaha's SafeBurn recording protection system. It also has a few new things like Yamaha's Audio Master Quality Recording mode. This new recording format is designed to increase playability in CD players and cut down on jitter that might otherwise degrade audio quality. There are other features like audio track editing and the new Mount Rainier format.. but you'll have to check out the review for more on that. Here's a sample from the review: |
With the CRW3200E, Yamaha has proven that just because a drive uses P-CAV writing technology, it does not mean it's going to be slow. Even though the difference is only a few seconds, the CRW3200E is the fastest 24x writer around. However, the new drive from Yamaha is not only a good writer, but is also very good at reading CD's. It joins the Sony CRX175 and AOpen CRW2440 as one of very few 24x writers that can read CD-RW discs as fast as other types of media. The DAE performance was also very good. It even handled scratched and dirty discs fairly well.
I have to admit that this drive sounds promising. As far as I know Yamaha also produced decent drives, but this one sounds extrmely good.... will this drive be competition for Plextor and LiteOn?
It may be, especially for those who use their drive mainly for audio cd's.....
