Adobe announces new cloud-based features

Adobe will introduce new features to its Flash Platform, with two cloud-based services expected to help further adoption of Flash.

The launch will include the Adobe Flash Platform Service for Distribution, allowing advertisers and content publishers to share content -- and generate revenue -- through desktop PCs, mobile devices and social networks.

"Our customers rely on the Adobe Flash Platform to make rich and compelling applications that work across operating systems and screens," Adobe GM David Wadhwani said in a statement.  "The new services from Adobe allow Flash Platform developers, advertisers, game makers and other content publishers to connect with an even larger audience more effectively, and grow revenue opportunities."

The ability to share applications through the cloud, regardless of location, will be an important ability, as it allows sharing from a PC to a mobile phone, or vice versa.  The service will help game builders and advertisers launch to a larger audience, and will be available in Flash Professional Creative Suite 4, Flex, and Dreamweaver.

Furthermore, users will be able to share all Flash-based apps easily, and it gives publishers the ability to bundle apps or games with other programs.

Adobe, despite its numerous well known products, has continually struggled at turning a profit -- company layoffs and reduced benefits reveal the company's internal issues.  Viral distribution could be the first step in a long road back to financial relevance, despite having Flash and other popular programs within its product portfolio.
