IDC: 'Windows 8 should have contained start button'

Microsoft has made a couple of mistakes in Windows 8,  according to an IDC researcher. The company should have kept the start button as people are used to it for many years already. The statement comes from IDC analist Bob O'Donnell who analyzed Microsoft's latest operating system.

The researcher also suggests that Microsoft should have allowed users to start Windows 8 directly in desktop modus. Currently the OS shows the Metro interface when it starts up.  According to him the loss of the start button and booting to Metro are inconsistent to users and research of IDC suggests that people miss the old functionality and dislike the fact that they don't have a choice.

According to O'Donnell there are a lot of users who switch to desktop mode directly after Windows 8 has been loaded. They feel more comfortable in the desktop.

Also a lot of computer vendors want Microsoft to make changes. The researcher hopes that Microsoft will eventually make changes. He argues that PC makers recognize a lot of the challenges that users face and when he talks to them they want Microsoft to make changes. But as he states 'pride goes before the fall', Microsoft might simply believe in their own ideas.
