Sony updates PlayStation Home, major redesign still coming this fall

The latest version of Home, the PlayStation 3's online interactive hub, is now live. Sony confirmed the update on Wednesday, detailing the new features and minor tweaks present in the 1.55 patch at its official U.S. PlayStation blog.

The two main additions are across-the-board improvements to the look and feel of the client's boot-up sequence and a new information display, revealed a PlayStation Home Community Manager.

Other tweaks address quibbles with Home's myriad customization options. A speedier, more user-friendly Wardrobe and Furniture browser lets players view the name, description and cost of each virtual item. New users also have access to a Help menu and supplemental loading screen tips to ease them into the virtual community.

LOOT's Active Camera rounds out the improvements. An in-app video creation tool, the Active Camera boasts direct-to-YouTube video uploading, HDD video saving and a suite of editing features exclusive to Home.

Sony has yet to reveal the exact date of the previously announced "complete redesign" of Home. The more robust update will introduce a questing system and revamped layout that features themed-districts attached to a central hub. A PR spokesperson for SCEA told MyCE it's still set for a fall 2011 release. (via Official U.S. PlayStation Blog)
