If you are wondering how much of the laptop or tablet with Windows 8 you might purchase goes to Microsoft, then we've got news for you. Digitimes reports that Taiwanese OEMs have revealed some of the licensing fees which OEMs have to pay to Microsoft for the pre-installs of Windows 8. For OEMs the release of Windows 8 is an important event as they expect that due to it they will sell more hardware such as notebooks and tablets.
For OEMs Windows 8 would be priced US$60-80, Windows 8 Pro (with Office) goes at US$80-100 and for Windows RT (with Office) the OEMs have to pay US$50-65.

When it come to additional hardware sales, the Metro GUI might play an important role, as Digitimes reports: "Windows 8 is unlikely to help significantly boost PC demand before 2013 since the new operating system will increase hardware costs due to some components needing to feature additional functions such as touchscreens to allow the operating system to perform fully".
But OEMs are not totally sure as Digitimes adds: "however, due to remaining uncertainties, most players are still taking a conservative attitude about the launch."
