SATA (CD/DVD players and writers)

SATA is the serial interface for connecting hardware devices and it is called to replace old parallel interface ATA. This means you will find SATA connections on optical drives like DVD writers and players nowadays. Make sure to check if your computer (motherboard) supports SATA connections when you are buying a new optical drive. Drives connected through SATA have a higher transfer speeds than those connected through USB2.0 – but the downside is that you will have to open up your computer to connect a SATA drive.
